Job Requirements & Responsibilities

1. Prepare and serve meals for normal and special diets.
2. Assist with the care of oral hygiene.
3. Assist with grooming: shampooing hair, setting and combing hair, and shaving.
4. Assist with bathing of patient: in bed, tub or shower.
5. Assist patient on and off bedpan, commode and/or toilet.
6. Assist patient in transferring from bed to chair, wheelchair, or in walking.
7. Assist patient with eating.
8. Assist patient with dressing.
9. Arrange a schedule so that patient follows medical recommendations such as
range of motion and increased activity levels.
10. Take vital signs: temperature, pulse and respiration when advised.
11. Keep simple records.
12. Perform household tasks essential to the patient’s health needs, such as:

• Light Housekeeping
• Making and changing beds
• Dusting and vacuuming
• Dishwashing
• Tidy kitchen, bedroom and bathroom
• Notifying supervisor of needed supplies
• Shopping for patient if needed
• Personal laundry for patient when needed (may include ironing and
mending).
